I’m please to announce your successful candidates for the September 2022 SAC By-Elections! Please see as follows:
Vice President Governance:
Brittany Blair
My name is Brittany Blair. I am a second-year business administration student specializing in marketing. I have a background in entrepreneurship, having started multiple businesses in various industries over the past eleven years—one of which I still operate. Doing so has taught me leadership, budgeting, financial management skills and the joys of wearing ‘multiple hats’ as a small business owner. In the past, I was president and treasurer of the Youth Advisory Committee for four years: the group with a mission to establish a publicly-funded youth centre in downtown Brandon. My experience with this endeavour included recruiting and motivating youth involvement at local high schools and post-secondary institutes and establishing mission objectives, policy and team development. My goal as the VP of Governance is to use my skills and leadership experience, both from operating a business and spearheading the youth centre, to use my voice to advocate for students and to foster engagement with my fellow students. In my spare time, I go on adventures with my teenage son and young daughter or explore beautiful Manitoba on my motorcycle.
Sawaira Muhammad Rafique
Hello, This is Sawaira Muhammad Rafique and I am currently enrolled in the program of health care aide at the department of nursing. I am looking to further pursue a career in the medical field since I love working closely with people and helping out the ones in need. Standing up for the position of VP governance would provide me that opportunity as well as help establish great experience.
Vice President Engagement:
Ali Ramirez
Hello to all students, my name is Ali Ramirez, I am a second-year social service worker student, and I am running to be this years Vice President Engagement. I am a first-generation immigrant from Mexico who is passionate about LGBT2SQ+ and POC issues. I was originally elected as the LGBT2SQ+ representative however, over the summer I had the privilege of being elected by my fellow council members to step in as an interim Vice-President Engagement. During my time as VP Engagement, I have worked closely with the executive team of the SAC to ensure students have a positive student experience at ACC. For example, as an interim I was able to do a complete overhaul of the club’s program plus plan events for this upcoming year. However, I believe that my work is not done yet. I still have more to show and more events to plan. COVID-19 has greatly impacted the students at ACC and I would love to bring that positive student experience back.
Sukhman Preet Kaur
Sukhman Preet Kaur is a second-year business student specializing in Human Resources. Sukhman began her college studies as an international student in January 2022. Sukhman aspires to be a Certified Human Resources Professional as well as a Social Worker. She also intends to pursue CPHR certification. In high school, she held the position of “Head Girl” and gained some experience with student governance. She has also worked with various NGOs in her high school. She plans to provide students with the required resources to help students with a better understanding of the ACCSA services and to better support the development of ACCSA. As a Vice President of Engagement, she will be ensuring the creation and application of efficient operations and low-cost systems that meet the present and future needs of the organization.
Sincerely,
Karleigh Paul, ACCSA Executive Director, Election Chair
