Meet the Candidates
Arianne monroy de leon
Running for SAC President
My name is Arianne and I am a Mexican artist who is passionate about creating and constantly challenging myself to grow. I enjoy exploring new ideas, working on projects that help me better understand who I am, and learning from the people around me.
Throughout my life, I have explored many different paths. While I may not
consider myself an expert in all of them, these experiences have given me valuable tools to approach challenges with creativity, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills. I’m also someone who values empathy, and I find it easy to connect with others.
As an international student from a completely different environment, I am
motivated by the opportunity to grow, learn, and gain meaningful experiences that shape both my personal and professional development.
I am running for Student Council because I want to use my values, skills, and perspective to make a positive impact on the community. Even though I am still learning about myself, others, and this new environment, I am excited about the opportunity to do so from a position where I can create meaningful change and support those around me.
Oluwatoyosi happiness babalola
Running for VP of engagement
My name is Oluwatoyosi Babalola, I am currently pursuing a diploma in Social Service Work, with a strong passion for building connection, community, and meaningful student experiences.
Born and raised in Nigeria, a vibrant country rich in culture, community, and energy, I bring a warm and dynamic approach to everything I do.
Moving to a new environment has allowed me to understand the importance of belonging, and how powerful it is when people feel seen and included.
With my experience planning and engaging in various events, I have developed the ability to create spaces that are not only organized, but enjoyable, welcoming, and full of life. I believe student life should go beyond the classroom; it should be vibrant, supportive, and memorable.
As Vice President of Engagement, I want to bring that same energy to campus by creating events that reflect our diverse community, celebrate culture, and give students real opportunities to connect, relax, and have fun.
I am not just running for a position, I am running to help build a campus where students feel connected, valued, and excited to be part of the community.
marbert a. tagbacaola
Running for VP of operations
My name is Marbert A. Tagbacaola. I grew up almost half my life in the Philippines. I’m a passionate artist who likes to draw and mostly stick to traditional art. I’m a first year in Digital Arts & Design, where I’m having loads of fun learning about how to use digital tools for art.
I’m running for the council because I think it would be a good learning opportunity for me. It will help me build my skillsets in a team based environment.
justin myers
Running for VP of operations
My name is Justin Myers, and I am currently studying Web & Interactive Development at Assiniboine College. I am originally from Jamaica, a country known for its motto, “Out of Many, One People,” which reflects unity, diversity, and community values that I carry with me every day.
I enjoy working with technology, solving problems, and connecting with people from different backgrounds. I like being involved and taking initiative, whether it’s helping others or contributing to group activities.
I am running for Student Council because I want to be more involved in campus life and help improve the overall student experience. I believe college should be a place where students feel included, supported, and heard, and I want to play a role in making that happen.
I bring strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to listen and work with others. I am approachable and committed to representing students in a way that reflects their needs and ideas. If elected, I will focus on creating engaging events, encouraging student participation, and helping build a stronger, more connected campus community.
alex touzin
Running for accssibility representative
My name is Alex Touzin. I am 19 years old and a Digital Art and Design student at Assiniboine College. I’m an advocate for accessibility and disability inclusion, and I have worked with both the college and the city of Brandon to improve the accessibility of public spaces. I’d like to share my perspective as a disabled person to continue building a more inclusive campus!
I believe accessibility is essential to creating a supportive and equitable student environment, so the Accessibility Representative position feels perfect for me. I look forward to collaborating on amplifying student voices, improving accessibility on campus, and making Assiniboine a safe and inclusive space for all
jordyn rowan
Running for business representative
I am a first-year student completing my diploma in Business Administration with a financial services major. I am a part of the co-op program ran by Lisa Huston, and with that have involved myself in many events. I look forward to a future in finance while working with diverse teams and clients.
I have worked part-time with a little kid’s basketball program called “Little Ballers” for 2 ½ years where I have worked my way up from an assistant coach to a head coach. Just this past winter, I coached the freshmen girl’s basketball team at Crocus Plains.
My reason for running for Student Council as the Business Representative is rooted in my passion for building a strong sense of community. I want to help foster connections not only among business students, but across Assiniboine College as a whole by actively contributing to the ACSA community.
I am especially interested in planning and supporting events and activities that bring students together. Every time I see an event at Crossroads organized by the Students’ Association, it puts a smile on my face—and I want to be part of creating those moments for others.
Being able to contribute to a positive, welcoming environment and help build a community that supports and uplifts one another is something I truly care about. I would be proud to play a role in strengthening that sense of connection for all students.
robert johnson
Running for mature representative
My name is Rob Johnson and I’m a Business Administration – Accounting student at Assiniboine College. I’ve returned to school as a mature student with real-world work and life experiences. As someone balancing studies with adult responsibilities, I understand both the challenges and strengths that mature students bring to campus.
I’m running for Mature Student Representative because I want mature students to have a strong, consistent voice in campus life. If elected, I will advocate for more mature-friendly events (i.e. family-friendly socials, evening study sessions, career-focused workshops), and I’ll work with the council to design activities that help all students connect across ages and programs. My goal is to create a welcoming, practical, and inclusive campus experience where mature students feel fully part of college life and new ideas can come from anyone.
nicholas william orpin
Running for parkland representative
Hi everyone! My name is Nick, and I’m a first-year Business student running for the position of Dauphin Representative. From the moment I arrived on campus, I knew I wanted to be more than just a student, I wanted to be a voice for those that don’t speak for themselves. When I graduated high school in 2016, I continued my studies at the University of Manitoba hoping to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I saw how easy it was to slip through the cracks firsthand seeing student after student disappear week after week. Every single student was just another number, easily replaceable and easy to ignore. Each week another voice was lost, and nothing would change.
This year, I’ve hit the ground running as a member of the Dauphin ACSA Committee and have had the privilege of volunteering for our school community at the Alumni Awards at the Watson Art Centre. These experiences have shown me just how much students are capable of when they have the right support and representation behind them.
I’m running for Dauphin Representative because I believe every student deserves to be heard, especially those who feel like their voice gets lost in the crowd. As the Dauphin Representative, my goal is to bridge the gap between students and decision-makers, improve the resources available to all of us, and make sure that no one feels like they have to navigate this experience alone.
I may be in my first year, but I come with fresh eyes, genuine passion, and a real commitment to driving meaningful change on campus. If you’re looking for someone who will show up, listen, and actually follow through, I’m the perfect person for the job.
