Food Security Resources in Brandon- On Campus

1. ACSA Food Hamper Program.

Once a month at the Victoria Avenue Campus in the ACSA Event Space, you will have the opportunity to shop for a bag of food for a low cost of $5.00. Watch your email and social media for the upcoming dates.

2. Community Fridge- Reducing food waste and promoting food security.

Land and Water Management Alumni, Sara Madill researched and developed the Community Fridge project in 2022 as part of a Capstone project. Assiniboine’s ongoing Community Fridge project is a small-scale solution promoting food sharing to address food waste and food insecurity issues amongst students.

The Community Fridge project follows the rules and regulations of The Food Donations Act.
The Students’ Association regularly contributes to the Community Fridge project. Some Assiniboine staff also donate to the fridge regularly. We have also received donations from The Salvation Army, Food Rescue, and Samaritan House since 2022. Additionally, we are grateful to Mindful Employer Canada for their grant funds over the last two years that we have used at Food Rescue.

The Community Fridges are located near the Students’ Association’s Crossroads at the Vic Ave
East campus, near the Cube on Mazergroup Main Street at the Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology campus on the North Hill campus, and in the student lounge at Parkland campus.

Housing Resources Information

Need a place to live?

It’s a good idea to look for places to rent early. Housing can become more difficult to find near the end of summer, the closer it gets to the start of school in the fall (after the first weekend in September). Places may also become more expensive near the end of summer.

It’s also a good idea to move into your place weeks before the start of your classes. This way you’ll be settled in and have more time to find services available to you in the community and on campus, before you need to focus on your schoolwork.

IMPORTANT: Accommodations listed are not endorsed or supervised by Assiniboine, and students must make their own arrangements. Students are advised to inspect all accommodations before accepting them.
