SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday - Jack Talk
DESCRIPTION:Jack Talk – Conversations on Wellness\nJoin Abby Walker and Amitoj Kaur as they have an open and candid conversation about wellness\, mental health\, and everything in between. Jack Talks are an open dialogue between fellow students and recent graduates with experiences that may be very similar to your own. We encourage you to take the time to listen\, feel\, and ask questions! \nTalking about mental health can sometimes be difficult for people – especially those who are struggling or have experienced a difficult situation. While we have done everything we can to ensure our talk is safe and non-triggering as possible\, we wanted to provide some content warnings\, should you feel the need to supply warnings or make preparations in advance. These are some of the themes that may come up when speakers are sharing the stories and anecdotes they’ve been trained to share. \nAbby’s story themes: depression; eating disorder; grief and loss; mental\nillness; self-esteem and self-image; self-harm \nAmitoj’s story themes: academic pressure/stress; grief and\nloss; immigrant experience; self-esteem and self-image \nAbout Jack.org & Speakers\nJack.org is a charity that trains and empowers young leaders who are revolutionizing mental health. They are working towards a Canada where all young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other. A Canada without shame\, and where all those that need support\, get the help they deserve. With a national network of 2800 young leaders\, they’re only just getting started. Two of those leaders are joining us today: \nAbby Walker: Abby is a recent business graduate from Western University. She initially went into finance after her final year of university but quickly realized her passion was in mental health awareness. Abby played soccer growing up and through her own mental health struggles\, became interested in well-being. She now works for a health and wellness start up outside of volunteering for Jack.org. In her spare time\, she loves to read\, work out\, and hang with her two dogs. \nAmitoj Kaur: Amitoj Kaur (She/Her) is a university student studying Pharmacy at University of Alberta. She is from Punjab\, India. She found Jack.org through U Alberta Chapter and has been involved with Jack.org since 2019 in various capacities. Amitoj is a curious person who loves to travel solo\, explore new hiking trails and practice making the perfect pancakes. In summer\, you can find her jumping into the lakes while in winter you can find her at a local cafe admiring a good cup of matcha latte. A fun fact about Amitoj is that she is a podcast host for “Pause to Move”; she aims to share her learning experiences and processes that are helping her to move forward. \nRegistration\nStudents and ACC Staff can register to attend the event here if you wanted to send a direct link to those who would be interested: Click here to register.
